Sunny (Monika Wyrwicka)
100 x 100 cm. Oil painting + mix
Monika Wyrwicka was born in 1985 in Więcbork (Poland). She is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, in the field of plastic arts at the Faculty of Artistic Education. Monika is a painter, graphic designer and all-round artist. She paints in oil technique, using additional graphic elements – a combination that allows you to present a woman in new, abstract forms. It is a fusion of love for the traditional art of painting with functional graphic design, which the artist deals with on a daily basis. Such an unusual composition emphasises both feminine beauty and sensitivity and women’s strength and prowess. Traditional painting combined with graphic design is the artist’s way of showing the abundant palette of a woman – not only the one in the painting, but also the concept of a woman as is perceived in a broader cultural context. The paintings are created on the basis of well-thought-out photo shoots of women, supported by a creative vision and traditional painting craftsmanship.
Ever since I can remember, women have been my source of inspiration and inner strength for my creative expression. Their multidimensionality and a multitude of emotions have been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for my painting work. On one hand, a woman as the embodiment of primal ferocity, unbridled strength and generational wisdom, and, on the other hand, incredible sensitivity, softness and gentleness, which not only does not stand in opposition to strength, but serves as its perfect complement.
The composition of the paintings, the graphics and the colours are carefully thought-out. The energy and emotions flowing from the canvas are intended to complement the space and give it a new quality. The colours appeal to the imagination, saturate it and convey the wildness and delicacy of the women depicted. These are extremely expressive works, with rich symbolism and energy.
A combination of traditional painting and graphic design allows me to reinforce my message. To show a traditional woman – full of strength and feminine essence – and the industrial woman surrounded by raw forms that add to her character and emphasise her sensitive side. The rawness of the graphic elements transferred to the canvas not only appeals to the recipient’s imagination, but also shows, sometimes even exposes, the truth about us women.
As a result, my paintings evoke deep emotions in women, allowing them to see their own reflection in this kind of a portrait of themselves, acknowledge the wildness in the eyes and the sensuality in the lips, light up the space and rekindle the fire that lies dormant in each of us.
